At Future Tech Fest 2025, iiterate presented a case study on virtual hosts in online VR: the Volkswagen Customer Center experience in Hannover, and what changes when those hosts are AI-generated.
Virtual hosts, then AI-generated ones
iiterate was invited as a speaker to present "Virtual Hosts in Online VR, the Volkswagen Customer Center Experience in Hannover." The talk explored how immersive digital experiences become more human-centered through interactive video avatars acting as virtual hosts. By guiding visitors through a virtual customer center, these avatars make the experience feel personal, engaging, and intuitive, helping users feel comfortable in digital spaces.
The team then showed how the concept evolves when the hosts are AI-generated avatars. Using generative AI and virtual production workflows, this approach enables:
Scalable, adaptive content creation.
High character realism with natural tone, pacing, and lighting.
Creative flexibility in design and personality.
Cost-effective production compared to traditional video workflows.
This opens new possibilities in virtual showrooms, training environments, and customer engagement platforms. The session closed with a behind-the-scenes segment of production bloopers, an honest look at the creative process.
iiterate thanks Lars Terlinden, Brett Bouwer, and Nico Clark for their collaboration, and the Future Tech Fest community for the dialogue. It was good to reconnect with Kaif Ali, Prateek Mahalwar, Nicole Karuvallil, Nicole Osmenda, and Kai Krumbein, among others.
